Transradial Access Workshop
Date: Wednesday, 19 August 2020
Time: 16:00 – 19:00pm
Transradial access provides improved patient safety and comfort compared to transfemoral access. It has been associated with lower risk of haemorrhagic complication, faster recovery with immediate ambulation and increased patient satisfaction. Unfortunately the transradial approach is under-utilised by Interventional Radiologists due to familiarity with the transfemoral approach.
This workshop aims to provide didactic and practical instruction on the method of transradial access. The requisite assessment of adequate collateral circulation to the hand, choice of equipment, and patent haemostasis will be covered. The potential pitfalls and complications will be discussed. Interesting cases and complications with the TR approach will be shown.
The workshop concludes with a practical session where participants have an opportunity to practise ultrasound guided puncture of the radial artery and sheath insertion in training simulators.
