Workshop Synopsis:
With the growing demand for image-guided pain management, it is important for the interventional radiologist to be familiar with the range of tools that are available. We have assembled a multidisciplinary team ranging from pain anaesthetists, orthopaedic surgeons and interventional radiologists all bringing unique perspectives and skills to this workshop.
The lecture series range of interventions for degenerative spine disease from nerve root blocks to pulse radiofrequency and rhizotomy are featured, with experts sharing tips for success and how to navigate challenging cases. Embolisation for management of musculoskeletal joint pain in the knee and increasingly in other joints is featured for interventionalists wishing to embark on this growing aspect of pain management.
For malignant tumour-related musculoskeletal pain, the interventional radiologist should be familiar with the use of cryoablation as it continues to play a key role in its superior visualisation and precision of ablation margins in bone metastasis. There is also growing interest in pelvic and proximal long metastatic bone percutaneous stabilisation for pain palliation. Techniques and the latest updates for percutaneous vertebroplasty are also featured in the lecture series. Other areas covered in the pain workshop include prolotherapy injections for entrapment neuropathy, spine disc interventions, an epidural catheter for pain palliation and neuroplasty.
This 1½ day’s workshop will feature didactic lectures in webinar format and hands-on practicals with experts in the increasingly complex area of pain intervention. Small group practical sessions include opportunities to familiarise with nerve and bone access interventions conducted by overseas and local experts in this area.
